Sidrap, October 15, 2025 – A team from the Indonesian Center for Agricultural Development and Modernization of Livestock and Animal Health (BRMP PKH), which is a work unit under the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Development and Modernization (BRMP), Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, conducted a working and educational visit to H. Sapile Farm in Cipotakari Village, Panca Rijang District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap).
This visit aims to find out directly the effectiveness of using the Biomix Probiotic Product from PT Satwa Medika Utama (Sadita Indonesia), which is made from Lactobacillus sp. This product has been used by H. Sapile for approximately six months in his livestock business.
Direct Dialogue with Biomix User Farmers
During the visit, the BRMP team had the opportunity to have a direct dialogue with H. Sapile, the farm owner, to hear about his experiences and real results of using Biomix.
One of the team members, Mas Sutrasno, asked about the benefits and possible side effects of using the product. In response, H. Sapile explained:
"I'm a selective breeder and critical of the products I use. However, with this Biomix probiotic product, I've noticed a change and a difference. Over the past six months, feed consumption has decreased, but production has remained stable and even increased. Productive chickens also have longer shelf lives before being culled. I conclude that the nutritional requirements are more efficient. There are almost no side effects, and I've even stopped using antibiotics because the chickens seem more resistant to disease," he explained.
BRMP's Appreciation of the Nation's Children's Innovation
The head of the BRMP PKH team, Dr. drh. Iif Syarifah Munawaroh, M.Epid., in her presentation expressed her interest and appreciation for the local product developed by PT Satwa Medika Utama.
"We at BRMP, the Animal Husbandry and Animal Health division, are interested in this Biomix probiotic. Our Competitive Grand program, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture's Integrated Corporation of Agricultural Resources Empowerment (ICARE), focuses on the breeding and application of probiotics to the beef goat population. This product is a national innovation that deserves to be appreciated, valued, and widely disseminated. This also gives us an opportunity to try Biomix on goats, hopefully, it will provide widespread benefits to the livestock community," he said.
Support for Research and Downstreaming of Local Products
Responding to this, Dr. Ilsan Arvan Nurgas, M.Si., Director of PT Satwa Medika Utama, explained that Biomix is the result of downstream campus research that has been developed into a high-value commercial product.
"Biomix products are the result of our collaboration with academics. The bacterial isolates come from the research of Prof. Diraya Husein (FMIPA UNHAS Makassar), and we store them in Prof. Widya's bacteria bank (Airlangga University Surabaya). We strive to bring the results of our campus research to the public, and thank God, the results have been very positive in supporting livestock productivity," he explained.
Visit Agenda
The BRMP PKH visit was held for two days, on Wednesday–Thursday, October 15–16, 2025.
The first day focused on a field visit to H. Sapile's farm, while the second day was filled with evaluative discussions and the preparation of follow-up plans regarding the implementation and potential development of local probiotic products in the BRMP PKH program going forward.
